Yongquan Sweet Orange boasts its beautiful shape, bright color and incredible flavor, as a poem goes: “Peel with fragrant mist spurting, taste with nectar flowing”. Yongquan Sweet Orange has many brands, such as “Yanyutou”, “Yongquan”, “Nanping”, “Shata” and “Liwan”. The “Yanyutou” is the most famous one. The “Yanyutou” sweet orange, renowned in the world for the thin peel, bright color, juicy, tasty, high sugar content and low residue, ranked No. 1 in the national and Zhejiang competitions in 1989 and 1995, respectively. Besides, it got the fame of “An Incredible Specialty in Linhai: Edible Orange Peel” in the Shanghai Fair of Zhejiang’s New Agricultural Products in 1999 and earned the gold metal in the orange competition of the Agricultural Products Fair for Hometowns of Chinese Specialties in 2000. The “Yanyutou” sweet orange used to be the most expensive one in China, which was published in many national media including the People’s Daily. Thanks to the key orange-planting area in Yongquan Town, Linhai City was entitled the hometown of seedless sweet orange in China by the Ministry of Agriculture of the P.R.C. in 1999. Yongquan Town, in southeast of Linhai, linked up with 83 Provincial Highway, is 27 km away from Chengguan, Linhai. The planting of Yongquan Orange started from 1,800 yeas ago and prevailed in the Tang and Song Dynasties. As the planting area and outcome of orange reached to 28,000 mu and 3,900 tons, respectively, 80% peasants all over the town are engaged in orange production and trading. The established 505-mu provincial modern agricultural demonstration (orange) park was confirmed to be the “Promotion & Demonstration Base for Introducing Foreign Intellectual Fruits” by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs in October 1999.
