Taizhou, according to the data of the Fifth Nationwide Population Census in 2000, has 48 ethnic groups; thereinto, 47 groups are ethnic minorities with a population in total of 22,721, including 6,024 Tujia people, 5,782 Miao people and 3,250 Dong people. Having neither ethnic township (town) nor ethnic sub-township, Taizhou only has two ethnic people concentrated natural villages: one is Xiaotao Natural Village of Taotou Sub-township, Liuao Township, Sanmen County, with 146 Lei-surnamed She people, while the other is Shangmenlou Village, Anling Township, Xianju County with 35 Zhong-surnamed She people.
