
The Dachen Island, a well-known legendary island, is located in the east of Jiaojiang District, Taizhou, Zhejiang Province, in the southeast of the Taizhou Bay and the central south of the Taizhou Islands. As the main one of the 106 Taizhou islands, the 11.89-square-kilometer Dachen Island comprises two islands called the Upper Dachen Island and the Lower Dachen Island 2.5 kilometers apart. The former, also known as Shangtai, has a total hilly area of 6.6 square kilometers mainly for growing sweet potatoes and beans. The latter, where Dachen Town is located, is also known as Xiatai, 52 kilometers away from Haimen Port. The 5.2-square-kilometer island is rich in fishery. Taizhou Fishery Headquarters is located in its harbor. The 228.60-meter-high Fengfengwei Hill is located in the west of the island, which is perfect for vacation, sightseeing and historic tours thanks to its hilly landscape and unique cultural attractions.
As a national Level A fishing port, provincial level forest park and provincial level fishing base, the Dachen Island is well known as a “Pearl on the East Sea”. During the fishing season, plenty of ships gather around the sea of the island, the second largest fishery in Zhejiang Province, making a spectacular sight.
