Ziyang Street of Linhai,a costal city in east China’s Zhejiang Province, was crowned the title of the Fourth Top Ten “Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Street” in June 2012 and was unveiled on the afternoon of November 21, 2012.
The street from been named Zhongzheng Street during the period of Republic of China, to Jiefang Street after the foundation of the People’s Republic of China, has been renamed Ziyang in 1988 by the Linhai Municipal Government for the commemoration of Ziyang Zhenren Zhang Boduan——the first ancestor of the South Taoism who came from Yingzhu Alley, Ziyang Street during the period of the North Song Dynasty. The No. 1 historical and cultural ancient street of Linhai has undergone several vicissitudes during nearly-a-hundred years.
It is reported that the ancient Ziyang Street was first built during the period of Three Kingdoms, which is more than 1,700 years away from now, and was the most prosperous street where the millennium Taizhou State located in ancient times. Ziyang Street, with a length of more than a thousand meters, whose lanes completely retained the pattern of the Tang and Song Dynasties, included all the actuality of the history, the integrity of the style and features and the continuity of life. With the street, the mountain, the water and the city walls been integrated into one, it has shown the features and values of the ancient Linhai City. In this year’s accreditation and selection of national famous historical and cultural streets, Ziyang Street was named “Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Street” by the Ministry of Culture and the State Bureau of Cultural Relics.
