Tips for Post-disaster Epidemic Prevention

Trees collapsing, piled-up sundries and ponding of different scales have occurred in many areas in Taizhou after Super Typhoon Lekima, which are apt to cause water pollution, environmental damage and vectors and bring severe challenge for epidemic prevention.

The common epidemics after disasters mainly include intestinal infectious diseases like cholera, typhoid fever and dysentery, zoonosis and natural focal diseases such as epidemic hemorrhagic fever, epidemic encephalitis B and rat-and-mosquito-borne diseases like dengue, and common skin diseases such as maceration and insect-bite dermatitis. Besides, there might have accidental injuries caused by electric shock, sunstroke and bit and sting by poisonous insects.

Next, Taizhou will enter into the crucial period of preventing epidemics. So, what are the matters needing attention? Taizhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention reminds that citizens should pay attention to the catering and drinking water safety and personal hygiene after the disaster and remember to “eat the cooked, drink the boiled water and wash hands frequently”.
